GRASSROOTS COMMUNITY.

INFORMED PERSPECTIVES.

EMPOWERED EDUCATION.

Welcome to The Appalachian Psychedelic Society (APS).

Our mission is to cultivate a grassroots community united by informed perspectives and empowered education.

Through initiatives like our “Appalachian Psychedelic News” platform and the “Psychedelic South Conference,” we platform essential conversations, create safer community infrastructure, facilitate career pathways for Appalachians, and provide a platform for their voices to be heard.

Our focus is twofold:

Shattering misconceptions about Appalachia and facilitating thought-provoking discussions on the subject of psychedelics.

Our vision lessens the social cost associated with improving mental health diagnoses through psychedelics and challenges the existing stigma.

Our education and awareness campaigns help dispel misconceptions, highlight the scientific evidence and success stories surrounding psychedelic-assisted therapy as well as helps to evaluate serious risks.

In 2023, Oregon & Colorado became the first US states to pass psychedelic legalization bills.

In our neck of the woods, Appalachian states are joining in their own way

  • Ohio - is investigating the potential of the psychedelic substance ibogaine in addressing opioid use disorder (OUD). The Reaching Everyone in Distress Foundation (REID), a charitable organization dedicated to tackling addiction in Ohio, disclosed a promising collaboration that could pave the way for FDA-approved clinical trials exploring ibogaine's efficacy.

  • North Carolina introduced the psychedelic research bill titled HB727, the Breakthrough Therapies Research/Advisory Act. It advocates for research and efficacy of MDMA and psilocybin in treating an array of mental health and physical conditions.

  • Pennsylvania has hosted various psychedelic conferences. The University Of Pennsylvania has endorsed psychedelic research through its nursing program.
